Meet Donald

For over two decades, Amigos for Christ has been committed to transforming lives in rural Nicaragua, and by God’s grace, we continue to reach families, implement tried and true development strategies, and promote change and transformation.

Meet Donald. Donald is a Community Advocate and the newest member of the Amigos Family. Donald studied and received a degree in agriculture from a local university. During his time in school, like every student in Nicaragua, he was required to complete a pre-professional internship. When the time came for Donald to apply for a position, his top choice was clear. He had heard about a well-known non-profit in Chinandega and decided to pay them a visit.

Donald

“I chose to intern with Amigos for Christ because of its reputation here in Chinandega. I had heard of the important work they do rural areas, and many people spoke very highly of the work environment.” Donald was granted the opportunity, and he served on the Amigos Team for several months until completing his degree.

“The internship was an incredible experience. I learned so much from my co-workers, and I met many families from the communities. Above all, I felt very happy and proud to see families transformed. Being a small part of something so big was amazing. I learned from the internship that I wanted my career to have purpose too.”

Months later, Amigos for Christ was hiring, and we immediately thought of the young and inspired guy who had served so well as an intern – Donald. He was already familiar with our mission and vision, and he was passionate about our work. We interviewed Donald, and he eagerly accepted a job offer to become a part of the Amigos Family.

“In my opinion, the best part about working here is going out to the communities, stepping into their world, and understanding their situations. I love gaining their trust and walking step by step through Plan 7 with them. Building trust is the foundation needed to make real transformative change.”

Donald

Donald has been an official part of the Amigos Family for several months, and we know that he will continue to do great things for Nicaraguan families. “I dream of being a leader one day as Amigos grows. I want to help in new communities and continue to make Christ more visible. I believe that there is no better place than the Amigos Family. We are united in striving to help people in need.”

Doña Jaquelin, a community member that Donald visits regularly, describes the importance of his visits. “I am happy that he visits us. We are used to seeing him. He is really like a part of the family. We want all the Community Advocates to continue doing their work. They support us and care for us. They give us health tests and medicines, and they give us trainings and support.”

As Amigos continues to grow and dream bigger, team members like Donald shine as Bright Spots. They are examples to many, sharing specific God-given gifts and talents with everyone they meet. Donald will continue to share his passion and love for people in Nicaragua, and he will continue to inspire all of us as he uses his gifts to transform the world.
