Gratitude Coordinator. Sabrina has been a part of the Amigos story since it began, and she is truly grateful that she is able to tell the story of impact to our family with photographs, videos, stories, and art. Though trained as a nurse, she believes her work now is the same- she can bring healing and hope into people’s lives by allowing them to see their involvement in Amigos as God does – with deep joy that they are bringing about the Kingdom here and now for families in Nicaragua.

Let us be like little kids

I remember when I was a little kid, we all wanted to sit on the last seats on the bus. It was where the cool kids were. When the bus emptied, we would sneak farther and farther back.

Here at the Amigos Academy, the kids all wait for the professors to say, “Yes. GO! Move forward!” when the bus stops, and the kids all rush to the front of the bus.

Some things change – but kids are the same everywhere.

What I love about Nicaraguans kids is that they are happy being kids.

Whether they are trying to dig with their “American friends,” or running around playing silly games, they are unabashedly kids. And I notice the same when the kids come and visit from the states: playing in the dirt, laughing wholeheartedly. Living gleefully and joyfully in the here and now.

Children across all cultures are the same- it doesn’t matter the language or politics or even the era. Children are happy just being kids.

“Let the children to come to Me, don’t hinder them, because the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”
Mark 10:14

I think this verse is strategically placed in the bible for all of us curmudgeonly adults. When do we stop enjoying the day and laughing our way through life?

  • Gotta make dinner? Why not dance while you do it?
  • Gonna go to work, and traffic is a beast? Act like Speed Racer and make all the sounds. [If this is foreign to you, you are too young!]
  • Need to mow the lawn or vacuum? Act like a jedi from Star Wars!
  • See your bestie at church? Run and hug them!

We somehow lose our childlike nature, which I believe Jesus wanted us to keep. Our wonder, awe, and joy.

Kids here remind me that we don’t have to grow up and be grumpy and so, so serious. We can be light and joyful and trusting of our Father in heaven.

We are all supposed to be His children. And run to whatever seat on the bus when He yells, “Go!”
