The Challenge

58% of rural Nicaraguan families lack access to essential sanitation infrastructure. Inadequate sanitation and hygiene are linked to the transmission of disease and parasites.

Our Plan

In 2026, we will partner with 300 families living in rural Nicaragua to build Modern Bathrooms, promote healthy hygiene practices, and eliminate pit latrines.

Summer Goal

We’ve been fundraising and building bathrooms all year, making connections and transforming lives with every septic tank dug and every brick laid. 

This summer, we are raising $175,000 to fund the remaining 115 Modern Bathrooms, getting us over the finish line and making our vision for healthier, more resilient communities a reality.

Every Modern Bathroom

includes a flush toilet and septic tank, a sink, and a shower. Together, this sanitation infrastructure creates More than a Bathroom:

  • Health

    Modern Bathrooms disrupt the cycle of parasites and reduce the transmission of disease. Families with access to sanitation are less likely to test positive for pathogenic parasites and less likely to have diarrheal disease.

  • Hygiene

    In addition to a flush toilet, our Modern Bathrooms include a sink and shower. Together with health training implemented by our community advocates, these projects promote improved hygiene practices that form healthier, more resilient communities.

  • Dignity

    Safe sanitation infrastructure is a human right and essential for physical, mental, and social well-being. Access to a private bathroom is especially life-changing for women and girls. A secure place to bathe and manage menstruation protects their health and reduces vulnerability.

  • Hope for the Future

    For children, less time sick means more time in school and better educational outcomes. For adults, it means fewer costs related to health treatment for themselves and their families, more time to focus on providing for their families, and less stress and anxiety overall.
