Youth Development
at Amigos for Christ
We believe that investing in and empowering young people is the most impactful way to facilitate long-lasting transformation in Nicaragua. Our youth development programs are designed to provide young people in Chinandega with access to opportunities, trusted guides, and welcoming spaces so they can become the next generation of leaders in Nicaragua.
Why is this important?
In Nicaragua, only 55% of students graduate from the 6th grade. That’s nearly half a country left behind.
Nicaragua is the 2nd poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, with an annual per capita income of $2,200. This economic reality contributes to a general lack of opportunity and rampant mental health challenges.
Amigos for Christ is working to change all of this.
Our Key Programs
The Amigos Academy is a model primary school in the rural community of La Chuscada providing quality education that focuses on excellence and innovation. Equipped with the best teachers, curriculum, and technology, our students are receiving one-of-a-kind opportunities to develop and thrive academically.
Leaders in Action provides scholarship opportunities to students in rural Chinandega through formal partnerships with the best high schools and universities in Nicaragua. Our young Leaders participate in leadership activities and retreats and put their skills into action through community service and mentorship projects.
The Amigos for Christ Baseball Academy is the first integrated baseball training program in Nicaragua, training young people not only as athletes, but also how to be excellent leaders and citizens of their communities and country.
