At Amigos for Christ we are better together. We’re better juntos. Working together, we have narrowed down our specific calling to being a model cross-cultural development organization. We work shoulder-to-shoulder with our Nicaraguan neighbors to facilitate community leadership, clean water, health, education, and economic opportunity in rural communities in need.  

Our Amigos Internships support and enrich all that we do to be a model cross-cultural development organization. Working alongside our full-time team members, Amigos Interns gain professional experience, an opportunity to do impactful work and grow in a cross-cultural setting. Together we will spark transformational growth in people, families, and communities.

We’re ready to change the world with you. Interning with Amigos in Nicaragua gives you the opportunity to do impactful work while also gaining awesome professional experience. We believe work should be a place where you can invest all of who you are to meet the world’s greatest needs at hand. Our 12 week positions include:

  • Partnerships Intern

    Purpose:
    On the Partnerships Team, Interns will build meaningful relationships with group members and community members that lead to transformational connections. Interns, under the leadership of the project coordinator, will help to facilitate the week long mission trip experience both at the Amigos property and while supporting our projects in the communities.   

    Responsibilities: 

    • Facilitate a world class mission trip experience by getting to know and connecting with week long group members and walking alongside them as they serve our Nicaraguan brothers and sisters
    • Create innovative strategies to facilitate continual cross-cultural connections between group members and community members 
    • Utilize our Community Development Plan (Plan 7) to connect group members to Amigos’ projects. 
    • Organize and schedule special projects within communities each week 
    • Plan and keep inventory of necessary tools, water, and worksite supplies 
    • Coordinate worksite setup and take-down 
    • Be available to support volunteers and assist in chores at the Amigos property 

    Life In Nicaragua:
    You will have the time of your life! Each Amigos intern will focus on two primary objectives: Cultural Integration and Connection. True life transformation happens when we can invest in both Amigos and local Nicaraguan communities. You’ll be embraced into the Amigos family at work, but we want to make sure that you’re flourishing outside of work as well. So, that’s exactly why your experience will be tailored to plug you directly into both the Amigos and Nicaraguan community life. The following opportunities are our invitation into these two big goals:

    Homestay Program:
    Amigos provides housing for each intern through our Homestay program. Interns will be paired with other members of the Intern team and connected with a family where they will share a room and a bathroom. Each Homestay will provide the opportunity to integrate fully while sharing a living space, meals, excursions and language immersion.

    Language School:
    Amigos partners with Casa Xalteva in Granada, Nicaragua where Interns will spend one week in small group language classes, guided excursions, and will be connected with Granada based Homestays.

    Commitment:
    Interns will be expected to:

    • Arrive on May 21, 2020 and stay until August 15, 2020.
    • Cover the costs of airfare, $350 Language School Fee, and any additional spending money (some weekend meals and anything else you might want to buy when you’re in Nicaragua)

    Requirements:

    • Minimum of 2 years of college completed
    • Leadership Experience
    • Spiritual & emotional maturitySelf-starter, creative thinker & team player
    • Adaptability – must be able to work in a fluid environment
    • Ability to connect with a variety of people utilizing strong relational skills

    Location:
    Chinandega, Nicaragua

    Position:
    Volunteer (unpaid) / 12 weeks, 480-hour position

  • Group Health Intern

    Purpose:
    As members of the Partnerships Team, Group Health Interns will build meaningful relationships with volunteers and community members while caring for the physical needs and health of the volunteers. Group Health Interns, under the leadership of the nursing staff, will serve both at the Amigos property and support our projects in the communities.  

    Responsibilities: 

    • Accompany the nursing staff as they attend to physical needs to group members  
    • Support the nursing staff with other Partnerships Team responsibilities 
    • Create innovative strategies to facilitate continual cross-cultural connection between group members and community members 
    • Assist the nursing staff in preparing medical supplies for the worksite 
    • Maintain stock of the Group Health Pharmacy and ensure that basic supplies are available to group members 
    • Utilize our Community Development Plan (Plan 7) to connect group members to Amigos’ projects. 
    • Be available to support group members and assist in chores at the Amigos property

    Life In Nicaragua:
    You will have the time of your life! Each Amigos intern will focus on two primary objectives: Cultural Integration and Connection.   • Community Development Intern

    Purpose:
    On the Community Development team, Interns will help to execute the strategies and tactics utilized to achieve progress in the 5 goals of our Community Development Plan (Plan 7). Interns will be involved in all areas and activities of the team while working to build relationships with members of each community.  

     

    Responsibilities: 

    • Build meaningful connections with members in each community  
    • Support and participate in the planning, preparation and presentation of scheduled events and activities in each development area, in all 6 communities supported by the designated team 
    • Accompany Community Development Specialists on Integral House Visits that focus on surrounding each family with support and connecting them to potential Amigos projects  
    • Work side by side with the team to analyze and adjust programming as needed  
    • Assist in logistic preparations

  • Infrastructure Intern

    Purpose:
    Our Infrastructure Team is directly involved in every aspect of Amigos. From planning and organizing community water systems that unite mission groups and community members, to constructing modern bathrooms and clean air kitchens, the Infrastructure Intern will work alongside our Engineers, Architects and Masons to help facilitate life transformation.  

    The Intern will help create meaningful experiences for group members to get to know the behind the scenes heroes of the Infrastructure team. Opportunities from helping to create schematics for water systems, designing schools and comedors,  to building dignified bathrooms for families with your own hands will ensure a meaningful experience for the Infrastructure Intern.  

     

    Responsibilities

    • Assist in logistics, designing, budgeting and planning for all infrastructure projects  
    • Collaborate  with engineers on current and upcoming projects 
    • Support coordination of movement of materials to work sites 
    • Interact and develop meaningful relationships with community families when projects are implemented 
    • Involve week long group members in Infrastructure projects when available 

    Life In Nicaragua:

    Position:
    Volunteer (unpaid) / 12 weeks, 480-hour position

  • Laboratory & Health Intern

    Purpose:
    The Community Development Laboratory & Health Intern will assist the Amigos traveling Health team and mobile laboratory in encouraging and teaching healthy habits using a variety of strategies. The Community Development Health team travels to all communities where Amigos serves, inviting every person to participate in health education, urine and feces sampling and testing, and treatment planning. They work alongside the Community Development Advocates to reach all communities and improve health for everyone.  

    The Community Development Health Intern will assist the team in all of their functions. From planning interactive and informative trainings, visiting houses to discuss lab results, to preparing the materials to make the mobile lab mobile, interns will assist in all aspects of health promotion in the communities.  

     

    Responsibilities

    • Build relationships with community members that earn trust to effectively transform habits.  
    • Travel with the Community Development Health Team to all 18 communities teaching preventative health strategies in community assemblies and house visits 
    • Assist in preparing the mobile laboratory with all necessary supplies 
    • Prepare urine and fecal samples

  • Bilingual Storyteller Intern

    Purpose:
    On the Communications & Marketing Team, Interns will utilize multiple media outlets to highlight bright spots and stories of success. Interns will capture the progress of our project areas, always seeking to make Christ more visible by celebrating and sharing the success of the intercultural Amigos family.

    Responsibilities:

    • Discover stories of impact to share with the Amigos family by connecting with staff and community members.
    • Collaborate with full-time staff to interview, collect, and creatively document stories highlighting outcomes of the five project areas: Leadership, Economic Development, Health, Education, and Water

    Purpose:
    On the Communications & Marketing Team, Interns will utilize multiple media outlets to highlight bright spots and stories of success.     Responsibilities:

    • Capture and edit the following photos: stock photos, community members, and group members.
    • Capture photos according to the Communications & Marketing Media needs for Newsletters, Quarterly Highlights, & Social Media

Our 6 week positions include:

  • 6-Week Partnerships Intern

    Purpose:
    On the Partnerships Team, Short Term Interns will build meaningful relationships with group members and community members that lead to transformational connections. Short-Term Interns will help to facilitate the week long mission trip experience both at the Amigos property and while supporting our projects in the communities.

    The Intern team will support the Partnerships team in connecting with and welcoming week-long volunteers each week. All interns are critical members of the team in ensuring that volunteers have meaningful experiences.

    Responsibilities:

    • Serve volunteers on the property to enhance their mission experience
    • Lead daily chores at the Amigos property and be available to support volunteers
    • Connect with volunteers on the worksite to provide a personal experience with Amigos
    • Utilize our Community Development Plan (Plan 7) to connect volunteers to Amigos’ projects.
    • Support worksite logistics
    • Assist in worksite setup and take-down

    Commitment:

    • Session 1: Arrive on May 21, 2020 and stay until July 4, 2020
    • Session 2: Arrive on July 11, 2020 and stay until August 15, 2020
    • Cost: $600 + airfare

    Requirements:

    • 18+ years old
    • Spiritual & emotional maturity
    • Leadership Experience
    • Self-starter, creative thinker & team player
    • Adaptability – must be able to work in a fluid environment
    • Ability to connect with a variety of people utilizing strong relational skills
